A young woman has accused an 18-year-old man of molesting, assaulting and wrongfully confining her inside a moving car in south Kolkata. The accused person has already been arrested after on duty traffic police intercepted the vehicle after hearing the cries for help from inside the moving car.The immediate and prompt action by the cops prevented a major crime in the city.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Saturday evening along Diamond Harbour Road in South Kolkata. Source told Times Now, “two officers from the Diamond Harbour Traffic Guard stopped a car at the crossing of D.H. Road and Banamali Naskar Road after reportedly hearing shouting from inside the moving vehicle. The car and its occupants were subsequently handed over to Behala Police Station for further investigation.”
Later, the victim lady arrived at Behala police station accompanied by her family members. Police source told Times Now, “in her statement, the victim lady alleged that following a quarrel earlier in the evening, her friend Arnab Shaw wrongfully confined her inside the moving car around 5:30 pm. She further alleged that Shaw assaulted her with fists, blows and kicks,the accused allegedly abused her with the intent to insult her modesty, and threatened her with dire consequences while the vehicle was travelling near Behala area. According to the complaint, she was eventually kicked off the car at Behala Chowrasta area by the accused man.”
Based on the written complaint a FIR was registered by cops at Behala Police Station under sections 127(2), 115(2), 351(2) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused, identified as Arnab Shaw (18) of Padmapukur, Shaw Para, Sherpur, was arrested during the investigation. Police also seized the hired vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
Officials confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in Alipore, South 24 Parganas, on Sunday. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
