Vande Bharat Sleeper Train sees massive demand, tickets sell out within hours

The newly introduced Vande Bharat Sleeper train operating between Kamakhya and Howrah has witnessed an overwhelming response from passengers, with all tickets for its first commercial run selling out within hours of the reservation window opening.

According to the Railways Ministry, the ticket booking for the service opened on January 19, at 8 am, and seats across all classes were fully booked in less than 24 hours through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and other authorised platforms. The strong demand highlights growing passenger interest in faster and more comfortable long-distance rail travel.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train, Train No. 27576, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17, and is scheduled to begin its maiden commercial journey from Kamakhya on January 22, followed by its first run from Howrah on January 23.

The Ministry said the rapid sell-out reflects public enthusiasm for the train’s modern amenities, enhanced safety features and semi-high-speed performance. Designed to offer a world-class overnight travel experience, the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat aims to combine speed with improved passenger comfort on long-distance routes.

The Kamakhya–Howrah service is expected to play a key role in improving connectivity between the Northeast and eastern India, reducing travel time while offering a premium alternative to conventional long-distance trains.

The Ministry noted that the strong passenger response to the train’s launch underscores rising confidence in the modernisation efforts of Indian Railways, marking a significant step forward in premium rail connectivity for the region.
