President Murmu hosts Putin at Rashtrapati Bhavan, says India–Russia friendship will “continue to prosper”

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin at Rashtrapati Bhavan, calling his visit a significant moment as India and Russia mark 25 years of their Strategic Partnership.

The Russian President is currently in New Delhi for a two-day state visit. Appreciating Putin’s role, President Murmu said the partnership — established in October 2000 during his first presidential trip to India — has seen steady progress this year in areas including political exchanges, trade, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, space and education. She said the joint statement issued after the annual summit provides a framework for future engagement.

President Murmu also highlighted the centuries-old cultural linkages between the two countries, referencing early trade connections and the historic correspondence through letters between Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy.

Both leaders expressed confidence that the friendship between India and Russia — which has remained steady over decades — will continue to grow in the years ahead.
