PM Modi highlights India’s push to end child marriage, shares article on national efforts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday highlighted India’s ongoing efforts to eliminate child marriage, sharing an article that underscores policy measures, sustained action, and community-level initiatives aimed at tackling the issue.

The Prime Minister was responding to a post on X by Union Minister Annpurna Devi, who had shared her opinion pieces published in various newspapers on the theme Child Marriage Free India. In her articles, she emphasised that ending child marriage is a national commitment to ensure a safer, educated, and empowered future for all girls.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Union Minister Annpurna Devi writes that until a few years ago, the idea of ending child marriage seemed far-fetched, perhaps even impossible. However, India has demonstrated through its efforts that it can be eradicated. Through clear policies, sustained action, and grassroots initiatives, we have proven that with determination, any change is achievable.”

Elaborating on the impact of these measures, Annapurna Devi noted that coordinated national efforts have strengthened the country’s resolve to protect girls’ rights and ensure equal opportunities. She further urged citizens and institutions to work collectively toward the shared goal of a society free from child marriage.
