Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard through video conferencing.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant work has been carried out over the past six years to generate and systematically organise data related to internal security. He said the launch of NIDMS marks an important step towards strengthening India’s counter-terror framework.
The Home Minister said NIDMS will play a key role in investigating terrorist incidents, analysing patterns of explosions, and formulating effective strategies to counter terrorism. He added that the platform will act as a next-generation security shield by enabling integrated and real-time access to data related to IED and explosion cases.
Shah said that while the Ministry of Home Affairs had generated large volumes of data over the years, much of it remained scattered across departments. The new system aims to integrate these datasets and use advanced Artificial Intelligence-based tools for analysis. He said NIDMS would accelerate efforts to connect multiple data sources and strengthen internal security.
According to the Home Minister, NIDMS will function as a two-way, integrated online platform accessible to the National Investigation Agency, Anti-Terrorism Squads, state police forces and all Central Armed Police Forces. Data related to any explosion or IED incident across the country can be uploaded and analysed to support investigations.
Shah said the NSG has maintained a comprehensive database of bomb explosions since 1999, which will now be made available to law enforcement agencies nationwide through NIDMS. The system will help analyse patterns of attacks, modus operandi and types of explosives used, and assist in establishing linkages between incidents.
Describing NIDMS as a secure national digital platform, the Home Minister said it will standardise, integrate and enable secure sharing of IED-related data. He said it will serve as a single-window access system for investigation agencies, improving both the speed and quality of investigations and prosecutions.
Shah said the initiative aligns with the vision of “One Nation, One Data Repository”, under which data across departments will be available as a national asset. This, he added, will support evidence-based prosecution and enhance coordination among agencies.
Praising the NSG, the Home Minister said it has consistently delivered results in counter-terrorism, anti-hijacking and bomb disposal operations. He described the force as a world-class, zero-error organisation that has continuously evolved to meet emerging security challenges.
Shah also highlighted the expansion of NSG regional hubs across Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad, with a new hub being set up in Ayodhya. He said this would significantly reduce response time during emergencies.
Referring to broader digital integration efforts, the Home Minister said nearly all police stations in the country are now connected through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). He said ICJS-2 is emerging as a next-generation data-sharing platform based on the concept of “One Data–One Entry”, and NIDMS will be integrated into this ecosystem to further strengthen India’s security grid.
