‘Overtime pay? Doesn't exist': Bengaluru techies fear 'reforms' will legalise 12-hour shifts; labour dept says no change in weekly hours



Proposed amendments to Karnataka’s labor laws, increasing daily work hours and overtime limits, face strong opposition from the IT workforce. Employees fear the changes will legalize existing exploitative practices like unpaid overtime and excessive workloads, despite the labor department’s claims of increased flexibility and alignment with ILO norms. The IT union argues the move will exacerbate health risks and burnout.
