Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday hailed the India–EU Trade Deal, calling it a defining moment in India’s global trade engagement and a major boost to the country’s mission of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
In a series of posts on X, Shah said the agreement marks a strategic breakthrough for India and reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic vision on the global stage. He said the deal is based on win-win agreements and establishes a trusted, mutually beneficial and balanced partnership between India and the European Union.
Describing the agreement as a historic achievement, Shah said it has been spearheaded by the Prime Minister’s ‘India First’ approach and safeguards key domestic sectors while ushering in a new era of prosperity. He noted that the deal provides unprecedented preferential access for 99 per cent of Indian exports, opening significant opportunities for sectors such as textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, marine products, gems and jewellery, handicrafts, engineering goods, medical instruments and appliances, plastics and rubber, and automobiles.
The Home Minister said the agreement sets a new benchmark for people-friendly trade deals and is expected to spur growth in the rural economy and increase women’s participation by securing preferential market access for agricultural exports.
Shah further said that the India–EU Trade Deal unlocks global opportunities for India’s youth by creating new jobs, encouraging innovation and enhancing competitiveness across sectors. Aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he added that the agreement strengthens India’s talent footprint across Europe by enabling independent professionals across 17 subsectors to provide services to EU clients. The deal also facilitates avenues in knowledge-driven trade and enables AYUSH practitioners trained in India to offer services in EU member states.
Thanking Prime Minister Modi for what he termed a landmark achievement, Shah congratulated the people of India and said the agreement would play a key role in shaping the country’s economic future.
