‘One Station One Product’ scheme transforms railway stations into hubs of local enterprise

The Indian Railways’ One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative has emerged as a significant platform for promoting local craftsmanship and grassroots entrepreneurship, transforming railway stations into vibrant showcases of India’s regional identity while providing direct market access to thousands of artisans.

Launched in 2022, the OSOP scheme has expanded rapidly across the country. As of January 19, 2026, OSOP outlets have been set up at 2,002 railway stations, with a total of 2,326 outlets currently operational. According to the Ministry of Railways, these outlets have created direct economic opportunities for over 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers and small producers, enabling them to connect directly with millions of railway passengers every day.

By integrating local heritage with India’s vast railway network, the initiative enhances the passenger experience while contributing to inclusive economic growth. Railway stations, traditionally transit points, are now being reimagined as platforms that celebrate regional culture and craftsmanship.

The products sold under OSOP reflect the diversity of India’s traditional skills and regional specialties. From handmade pottery and bamboo crafts in the northeastern states to spices, handloom products and indigenous sweets from other parts of the country, the outlets offer travelers a glimpse into the unique cultural identity of each region.

Beyond commercial benefits, the scheme is playing a crucial role in reviving traditional crafts that were gradually losing prominence. By providing artisans with assured visibility and access to a large consumer base, OSOP has helped sustain livelihoods and preserve heritage skills.

Indian Railways, through the One Station One Product initiative, has effectively blended commerce with culture, turning stations into centres of local enterprise. The scheme stands as a strong example of the government’s “Vocal for Local” vision, empowering communities while enriching the travel experience of passengers nationwide.
