Maithili Thakur wins Alinagar seat, becomes Bihar’s youngest MLA


Popular singer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Maithili Thakur won from the Alinagar Assembly constituency by 11,730 votes, becoming the youngest MLA in Bihar.

The 25-year-old, making her political debut in this assembly election, secured 84,915 votes, defeating RJD veteran leader Binod Mishra, who received 73,185 votes.

Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party candidate finished fourth with 2,275 votes, falling behind independent candidate Saifuddin Ahmed, who received 2,803 votes.

Earlier, when trends projected her lead, Maithili Thakur told ANI that the result felt “like a dream,” adding that she hoped to meet the expectations of the people.

“This is like a dream. People have a lot of expectations of me. This will be my first term as an MLA, and I will do my best for my constituency. I will serve my people as their daughter. I can only see Alinagar right now and think about how I can work for them,” she said.

According to the Election Commission of India, as of 9 p.m., the NDA has secured 179 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan has won 30 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the single largest party with 82 seats so far, followed by the Janata Dal (United) with 75 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has also performed well, winning 17 seats so far.

For the Mahagathbandhan, the RJD has secured 22 seats, while the Indian National Congress has managed just six seats.
