Two victims, male and female, washed ashore in the sea waters west of Arnala Fort village, Virar west on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the quiet coastal community.
Local residents, who spotted the deceased floating in the water, immediately alerted the police.
Police teams rushed to the spot and began the process of retrieving the victims from the sea.
“The identities of the deceased and the exact circumstances leading to their deaths are yet to be confirmed,” a police officer told mid-day.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and curiosity among the villagers as the investigation continues.
