EXCLUSIVE: Diana Penty on not being able to control her laughter while shooting with Chunky Panday in Detective Sherdil; says, “I ruined it for two or three takes”

Diana Penty opened up about a behind-the-scenes moment from her upcoming film Detective Sherdil that left the cast and crew in splits—and made filming a serious challenge.

In an exclusive quote with Bollywood Hungama, when asked if there was a particular scene that required multiple takes due to uncontrollable laughter, Diana was quick to recall Chunky Panday’s introduction scene. “Yes, I do! I think it was Chunky’s introduction scene, and he was hilarious. On set, he was so funny, and there were a lot of moments where we really had to hold it together so we wouldn’t ruin the scene. He plays this very Zen, calm person in the film—someone who loves nature, loves chanting, and is all about aura and energy, so he brings a lot of fun into the scenes,” she said.

It was Panday’s unexpected antics that threw everyone off. “He just walked into the room and started dancing or did something really funny, and for the first two takes, I laughed,” Diana said, adding that holding back her laughter became an impossible task.

“The one thing I really need to work on is keeping a straight face during a funny scene. I just can’t do it! I think I ruined it for two or three takes before we finally got it,” she admitted.

While the final version of the scene may appear seamless on screen, it’s clear that getting there was a hilarious struggle. Diana’s candid confession adds a delightful peek into the fun, off-camera moments that made Detective Sherdil just as entertaining to shoot as it was for the audience to watch.

Diana also said that the reason why she believes Detective Sherdil is a wholesome entertainer is because it has a mixture of various elements. “It’s a mix of suspense, thrill, and humour, with strong performances and a gripping storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The variety of elements makes it stand out, and of course, Diljit’s character adds so much to it—he’s goofy, flamboyant, and yet really good at his job. It’s a fun ride,” she added.
