Southern Railway has successfully upgraded all 9-car EMU trains to 12-car formations on Chennai’s major suburban routes, significantly boosting rail capacity. Operating on key lines like Chennai Beach–Chengalpattu and Chennai Central–Arakkonam, the longer trains offer a 21% increase in seating. This upgrade aims to alleviate overcrowding, enhance commuter comfort, and accommodate up to 4 lakh additional daily passengers.
